The Cutting Ball Theater is now accepting project proposals from directors and choreographers for Avant GardARAMA, the company's signature multi-week festival of experimental works dedicated to directorial exploration, in the 2017/2018 Season. Cutting Ball is seeking two short performance pieces helmed by bold directors and/or choreographers to be presented in February 2018.
Selected directors and choreographers will receive rehearsal space, a cast of performers, design and production support, and a small reserve of funds to actualize their proposed project. These pieces will be performed as an anthology production that will tech January 26th through February 1st, 2018 and be presented for a total of six performances over the course of two weekends: February 3rd through February 11th, 2018. Elongated and gradual rehearsal processes are encouraged, beginning as early as August 2017.
Proposed projects should be between five and twenty five minutes as performed.
Proposed projects may utilize text that is original, contemplative, canonized, or classical but the director/choreographer's approach to the project must defy boundaries of naturalism and demonstrate commitment to experimentation within the dramatic form.
How to Apply:
- Propose your project or concept – in writing, succinctly, submitted in PDF format – and include any relevant existing materials, such as text You may have an idea for a project that is not fully formed yet and Avant GardARAMA will provide you the space and time to explore, so some unknowns are acceptable and welcome in your proposal. If possible, include cast size and casting requirements, a breakdown of design and production needs, and an estimate of the total rehearsal hours your project requires
- Submit a short biography of the director or choreographer plus portfolio materials, if you have them, including production stills and video footage.
